Obituary for Mark Bergstrasser

Mark Dieter Bergstrasser, a Support Specialist with Aeries SIS and life-long resident of Wasco, CA, died on June 3, 2018, at the age of 54 due to complications of diabetes resulting in a pulmonary embolism.

Mark is survived by his wife of 28 years, Tamera (Pike) Bergstrasser; his son, Martin Bergstrasser and wife Christina; his son, Lawrence Bergstrasser; his grandchildren, Nathaniel and Adira Bergstrasser; his parents, Dieter and Linda Bergstrasser; his sister, Barbara Parcel; his mother-in-law, Shirleie Pike; his sister-in-law, Tracey Beach and her husband, Marty; his niece, Shannon Sandoval and her husband, David; his niece Allison Howard and her husband, Cole; his nephew, Zackery Jones and his wife, Wendie; his niece, Christa Parcel; his great nieces and nephews, Austin Sandoval, Ellery Howard, Jaisyn Jones, Avery Sandoval, and Parker Howard; and many close relatives and friends.

Mark is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Abe and Lucy Keeling; paternal grandparents, Ernst and Emma Bergstrasser; son, Sean Bergstrasser; and father-in-law, Garland Pike.

Mark was born in Lancaster, CA on May 7, 1964. He graduated from Wasco Union High School in 1982. He studied Horticulture at Bakersfield College and Information Systems and Computer Forensics at American InterContinental University. For the past 14 years, Mark was employed as a 2nd Level Support Specialist for Aeries SIS where he worked with the vast majority of California schools to keep their student information systems (SIS) running well. On July 8, 1989, he married Tamera, then a secretary and now a teacher, his only love. On October 21, 1994, Mark and Tamera adopted three sons.

Mark was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fur babies Anabelle, Arthur, Ariel, Audrey, and Augustine. He also enjoyed traveling in his fifth wheel to such places as Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, and Mount Rushmore. For their 25th wedding anniversary, he surprised Tamera with a river cruise down the Rhine River in Europe. Mark was a huge Disney fan, and they were able to fulfill their dream of visiting Walt Disney World. Mark was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church of Wasco for many, many years and served as song leader. He had a deep love for gospel music, especially southern gospel, and his collection is quite extensive. He was a faithful member of God’s assembly all of his life, and he loved spending time with God’s people. Mark was also involved in the Kern County Officials Association as a wrestling official for over 30 years, and for the past 2 years he also was the co-instructor/assigner. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the Shafter Missionary Baptist Church, 202 Golden West Avenue in Shafter, California. Pastor Robb Gonzales will officiate. Mark was respected, admired, and loved by his family and friends. He was one of a kind and we will all miss him so very, very much. Our hope is in God; therefore, we know we will all be together again one day in Heaven. What a glad reunion day that will be!!
